I should be in bed – my muscles feel like they’re full of sand, my head is all thick and I generally feel like the flu is trying to obtain a beachhead. Instead of resting, I thought I’d get clever and try to outsmart the towels. Turns out, towels are smarter than I am.
I thought, “if I put patchwork all the way around the towel, I won’t have to worry about the edges so much – I’ll just have to worry about the one edge, and I could even wrap that around again…”
In theory, it might be a good idea… but more thought is required. Like… making sure the edges of the patchwork are folded over and matched up correctly, so only one pass across each side is required. I like the way it’ll look, if I get it right. I did a far better job sewing the patches together in straight lines, though, so at least there’s progress there.
Kinda cool, right? Except the part where I had to stitch twice along each side, and they didn’t match up:
And I still didn’t get the edges right. Plus, I started to stitch in the ditch to secure the patches in the middle, and realized it wasn’t going to line up on the other side… so I stopped that, too. Maybe trying to come up with new ideas when I’m coming down with the flu isn’t the best idea unto itself. This photo shows both dork-ups:
I’m onto something, I just have to implement and line it up better. Plus, this way, both sides of the towel look pretty.
